SJSU CS vs. UCSD Math-CS

San Diego Sport News Reddit - Sun, 04/21/2024 - 03:38

So I got into SJSU cs and UCSD for math-cs and I’m currently debating on the two schools. Assuming that cost isn’t really a factor and I’m in state, what do y’all recommend in terms of best opportunity?

SJSU pros:

  • Pure CS

  • Internship opportunities (Silicon Valley)

  • teaches practical skills apparently

Cons:

  • commuter school mostly

  • close to home (sort of)

——————————————

UCSD pros:

  • More “prestigious”

  • Good campus and a lot of research opportunity

  • San Diego is nice and good tech hub

  • I do want to learn math too

  • Found some clubs I’m really interested in

Cons:

  • No priority for cs class registration (heard classes are really hard to get)

  • Socially dead?

It's been 10 years.

San Diego Sport News Reddit - Sun, 04/21/2024 - 03:35

Just rambling at 4am.

It's been 10 years since my mom passed away from a 4 year battle with breast cancer that went to her brain. She was 36 I was 13 at the time. When she was put into hospice they said she would have 2 weeks atleast. I wanted to stay the whole time like how i used to stay in the hospitals with her but my grandfather wouldnt let me and sent me home so i could go to school. She passed away an hour after I left. My grandpa still made me go to school the next day only for me break down in my first class. I wish I could've been there when she passed so I could've said goodbye hold her hand anything. I've only recently come out of the fog and started to grieve. I just want to talk about her but I feel like it's been too long and maybe the people around have moved on and don't want to hear about it anymore. The thing that hurts the most is the gaps in my memories. I used to be able to remember vividly the sound of her voice and smile but now everything is blurred I hate it. When she went into remission she and a friend took me on a road trip to the san diego zoo along the way she made she we went to every zoo along the way it was the fucking best. Even when she was facing her own mortality she always thought about me. I remember when she was really sick and lost alot weight it hurt to see her in that damn hospital bed a shell of the strong woman I knew as my mother. I would avoid going to see her like a fucking coward. My grandma who took care of her the whole time she was in and out of hospitals told me that when my mom would see me or hear that I was coming to see her she would light up and be happy the rest of the day. I hate myself for not going to see her more often I wish I was stronger then. It just hurt to see her in that state hooked up to machines and not being able to walk. She was in the national guard providing relief in hurricanes saving lives and studying to be a nurse to help people why her of all people. I always thought it should've been me but I realize now that it would've ruined her so maybe it was for the best that I wear these scars. I Miss you mom you'll always be your son's hero I love you to infinity and beyond.

CCW Late Renewal/ Is there a grace period? - San Diego County

San Diego Sport News Reddit - Sun, 04/21/2024 - 03:26

Hello there!

I had a quick question for everyone, I tried looking for the answer myself on the sheriffs website and online and could not find an answer.

So my CCW expired on June of 2023. I didn't renew because, to be totally honest, I forgot. I got a new job that is work from home and started carrying less since I wasn't finding myself going out much except to the gym and groceries.

I would like to renew it now since I want to go back to carrying everyday and make a habit of it, a habit that could potentially save my life one day, god forbid it comes to that.

My question is, is there a grace period to where I can still renew and just pay the renewal fees or do I have to go to the entire process again? I'm located in San Diego County under Sheriff Kelly Martinez.

My previous CCW was under Sheriff William Gore.

Any insight helps! thanks again!

Best Doctor in So Cal for Adult Circumcision

San Diego Sport News Reddit - Sun, 04/21/2024 - 03:23

Hey guys! I have been trying to find the best doctor out there than can do an adult circumcision. I am 32, so I’ve decided that I want to get rid of my foreskin for sure. It’s something I’ve always wanted and it is strictly for cosmetic reasons.

Are there any doctors that are great at what they do? And please don’t mention Dr. Badir from San Diego, I’ve seen his work and it’s horrible. Idk why he gets so much praise, unless I’m mistaken. I also found Dr. Padra Nourparvar in L.A. idk if he is good or not. Any suggestion works!

Thanks!

Seeking advice on finalizing a grad school for cybersecurity masters (Duke v/s SDSU)

San Diego Sport News Reddit - Sun, 04/21/2024 - 03:17

Dear all,

I am unable to make a concrete decision of finalizing with a grad school, due to the current economy and significant cost differences between the following universities -

Profile:

Having a total 3 years of professional full-time cybersec consulting experience with a Big 4 and a service based MNC.

Current state of mind:

  • This once in a lifetime grad life experience, university tag and strong faculty is pulling me towards Duke.
  • At the same time, the tuition cost & California location (West Coast) is making me lean towards SDSU.

Pointers for comparison:

Duke University (MEng. Cybersecurity Engineering)

https://preview.redd.it/mp7ytp1eusvc1.png?width=302&format=png&auto=webp&s=9e47d23356ea1e9e4b7726451dd9b9392a539f93

San Diego State University (MS Cybersecurity Management)

https://preview.redd.it/y3wjcxmtusvc1.png?width=303&format=png&auto=webp&s=ca9b37b09f4c42dcee389412604d6fd58e19281c

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As an international student who will be coming from India, I will be taking a student loan around 70k USD for Duke and around 45k USD for SDSU mainly for all of the tuition, just to highlight my current financial state. However, I can manage all the living expenses with personal+family savings.

Considering the current job market, AI effect, high US fed lending rates and reduced hiring of international workers, could you all please provide some insights for both universities, if this will be a wise decision in the long run? If yes, to which university should I commit?

Could you please provide any insights, suggestions and/or honest opinions considering the above scenario?

Thank you so much everyone! <3

What To Watch For In Celtics-Heat IV

San Diego Sport News Reddit - Sun, 04/21/2024 - 03:14

The Celtics’ first-round matchup is finally set. They will be playing the Miami Heat in the playoffs for the fourth time in five years. As it stands now, the Heat have beaten them in two of the three matchups, both of which could be described as “embarrassing.” The one time the Celtics beat Miami, they very nearly choked away a Game 7 in a series that never should have gone seven games in the first place. But as I said in my last column, if the Celtics can’t beat Miami this year, there is something wrong with them. Especially now that Jimmy Butler is likely to miss the entire series. This is an opportunity for them to extinguish a rival forever. My lack of respect for the Heat mostly comes from their lack of offense, particularly without Butler. Their best offensive player sans Jimmy is either Tyler Herro or Bam Adebayo. There should be heavy doses of them running versions of two-man games together. But in the modern NBA, against one of the best defenses in the sport, that isn’t enough. The Heat just don't have the fastball to compete. But they can win with a knuckleball. And that brings me to their patented zone defense. It is less formidable without Butler, to be clear, but should still be tight enough to give every Boston fan PTSD at the mere sight of it. And as offensively challenged as Miami is, their zone should prove as a good early testing ground for their playoffs offense. How aggressive are they about slashing through it to the rim? How sharp is their decision-making? To beat the Heat zone, you need speed, precision, a healthy amount of shooting, and that ball needs to be pinging around the court. Player movement is as important as ball movement, and the Celtics have to be playing offense with synchronized, united purpose. If that holds, they have more than enough talent and long-range shooting to score on the Heat. The degree to which they are successful at it will impact how I feel about them going forward in the playoffs. It will also be interesting to see how they treat Tyler Herro when he is on the floor, whether in man or zone. How will they align the court to make him work in the zone, and how much pick-and-roll will they run with Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown and whoever Herro is guarding? I think that will give an idea of how frequently Joe Mazzulla intends to incorporate that play throughout the playoffs, since Miami is a prime team to use it against, at least when they play man. It will also be interesting to see which of these two teams is able to impose its will on the other. It is a cliche, to be sure, but in watching the three previous series it is hard to argue with the fact that Miami was often the team imposing their style on the Celtics. They are physical, tough, and downright nasty, and love to bring opponents into the pig pen. But if the talent, shooting, and increased mental toughness of Boston is putting Miami on the back foot (and I believe it can), then this series will be wrapped up rather quickly. The Celtics have gotten to a historic net-rating by brutalizing mediocre teams all season long. And without Butler, Miami is certainly a mediocre team.

Lost Dog, Bonnie

San Diego Sport News Reddit - Sun, 04/21/2024 - 03:11

Hello San Diego…

My dog, Bonnie, got loose in Mira Mesa. I have been corresponding with someone who apparently found her but is acting super sketchy.

He had talked to my sister, made it sound like he was on the way to drop her off. I waited at my house to then be told that Bonnie is in Ramona. He wouldn’t give me the number of the supposed person that Bonnie is with.

Additionally, dude ignored calls and texts from my GF. The second I mentioned money, he magically had time/energy to text back. Even then, he was extremely sus.

If you see Bonnie, please DM me.
