Issues on Yahoo on Vista Laptop

Paris Sport News - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 10:35

My dad called me the other day asking for my help

Am here looking at it. Clicking the X to close it doesn't work, nor does selecting US English.

When I clicked UK English, it went away. Upon closing & restarting the browser, it pops up again with US English selected but not allowing you to close it thus cutting off a lot of yahoo's viewing area, even if I say, click one the articles I can see on the main page. It still covers most of the screen.

I even tried disabling ublock on the browser but that didn't help either.

It is running on Windows Vista SP1.

Not sure if that would be valuable info or not.

Do you think Sevens at the Olympics this year will be received well?

Paris Sport News - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 09:06

Let's be honest the tournament in Rio was a success. The crowds were great and the tourney was very competitive. Then Tokyo was a huge disappointment with COVID, not just for rugby sevens but for most sports. Do you think rugby sevens will be a success at this years Paris Olympics?

Came back from my first visit in 25 years. Not sure what to feel...

Paris Sport News - Wed, 04/17/2024 - 04:58

My parents used to take me to Disneyland Paris multiple times a year back in the 90's because my father had a job that required frequent business trips to France.

As a child who was bullied a lot in school, Disneyland always felt like my safe-space and the only place in the world where I could play and have fun without being laughed at. Sadly I lost my father to cancer, and no one in the familly felt like going back to DLP without him, so for 25 years I have avoided the park, and decided I would return when I had a familly of my own.

So this month I decided it was time to give my wife the same experience my father gave my mother, and booked a week in DLP, at Hotel Cheyenne where my familly always stayed.

This was not our first Disneyland experience together. We have lived in Tokyo for a few years, and have visited Tokyo Disneyland a few times, but it never had the same "magic" to me as DLP.

So I came back... and I am not really sure if I am blinded by nostalgia, but I felt that a good chunk of the charm from my childhood experiences in DLP had vanished.

First is the new look for the hotels. I know it's really weird to complain about a hotel in Disneyland being "too Disney", but I really did not like the new themes that they added. What I loved about hotels such as Cheyenne and Santa Fe was that they created a full illusion that you were actually back in the wild west, and they only had subtle hints at being Disney hotels.

Now the interior and some exteriors are covered with Toy Story and Cars, which completely takes you out of the illusion, and reminds you that you are living in a fake setting. I really did not like this change, and it certainly didn't help that I couldn't go to the reception for a roll of toilet paper, without being stopped by an armed guard who needed to check my bag...

I had the same issue with all the Marvel statues outside of the New York hotel. I felt they were a complete eyesore and ruined the imagination.

I was also very dissappointed by the lack of live entertainment at the hotel. I don't know if this is a seasonal thing now, but in my childhood I remember going to the Red Garter Saloon where there was live-music every night, performed by a lovely american/british couple (Anyone knows what they are doing now btw? Think they were called The Thrifts).

At Santa Fe they also used to have live performances and even karaoke nights. None of that was present when my wife and I went there. Again, maybe this is now a seasonal thing?

I was also bummed by the lack of free roaming at the hotels. I wanted to show my wife the Disneyland Hotel inside, which used to be fully accessible to everyone, just like the one in Tokyo. But we were again met by an armed guard, who demanded that we showed proof of being guests at the hotel. When we couldn't provide that, we were told to leave...

You also couldn't walk around in the Chuck Wagon Cafe or Red Garter Saloon outside the opening hours. This used to be possible, and many families used these places to rest while waiting for cleaning to be done, or waiting for laundry.

The park itself looked mostly the same, but really run down. Cracks everywhere, rides breaking down or being closed. Heck, the train couldn't even stop at Adventureland, Discoveryland or Fantasyland beacuse they didn't have enough staff... No Disney characters walking around. Instead people had to get in line to have one picture with each character, which again broke the illusion for me.

Disney Village also seemed like a ghost town, with barriers everywhere, closed buldings and a lack of live entertainment. I remember there used to be a huge stage in front of the sports bar, which had late-night concerts. Is this also a seasonal thing now or...?

Last but not least, I felt that the attitudes of the cast members had changed a lot, but this might also be because I have gotten so used to the level of service in Tokyo Disneyland.

Many cast members seemed to be pissed off most of the time, and did the bare minimum to offer any service to the guests. My wife was appalled when she went to the bathroom, and she saw the cleaning lady standing in a corner chatting while the floor was covered in piss, poo and blood. Even something as simple as buying an ice-cream took almost 10 minutes, because the staff was either busy talking to coworkers or moved incredibly slow while rolling their eyes and showing general contempt for the guests. I want to believe that we were just very unlucky.

Will I come back to DLP again? Absolutely. The place still means a lot to me, but I am just really sad at the state it is in, and I feel like some of the magic is gone...
