What are the characteristics of the best running shoes and sneakers?
The key to a good run lies in selecting the right kind of shoes for one’s feet! It is imperative for dedicated runners to have the correct type of running shoes to reduce or minimize any possibility of injuries, prevent the onset of blisters due to friction and primarily, to make the run seem a wee-bit easier.
Comfort, fit, run duration, sole material, breathability, and weight are the key aspects in choosing a suitable pair of shoes.

Baking soda will take care of almost any odor. Remove your insoles from shoes and let them air out overnight outside or wherever they can get fresh air. Next, evenly spread a small amount of baking soda inside the shoe and then put the insole back in. The baking soda will absorb any odors in the same way it does in your fridge!! If you don’t want to get baking soda directly on you shoe then make a small bag (like a tea bag) with baking soda and poke a small hole in it and this should work fine but be careful cause if the cops find it they may think its drugs.
Most sneakers can be hand washed with detergent and warm water, then dried (either tossed in the dryer or left outside in very strong sunlight); this should get rid of most odors.
If you don't really want to wash the shoes, you could also try a sneaker deodorizer as a first step and see if it'll remove enough of the smell for you to not need to wash the shoes
Put them in a large Ziploc bag and throw them in the freezer overnight. This supposedly will kill the bacteria that cause the odor.
After washing and wearing once put a clothes dryer sheet inside each one. It will help absorb moisture and give it a nice smell. Alternate shoes each day. Never wear them two days in a row.
If there is a hole in the sole that sucks-up moisture, it would be good to fill it with glue or special shoe-goo that exists for this, and maybe to add a new layer of sole with contact adhesive.
What type of shoes reduce the impact on knees when running on concrete?
Shoes don’t reduce impact, your running style does. Maximalist shoes pad your feet from the ground, but don’t really prevent impacts from travelling up your leg. When shoes get heavy, they put a lot of pressure on your hip flexors to lift your feet up.
The most important thing you can do to protect your joints is to run with a “barefoot style”. That doesn’t mean actually running with barefeet. The key aspects of it are:
Front of foot strike (instead of a heel strike, where you heels land first)
Foot landing as close as possible to directly below your center of gravity
What this does is it forces your calf, quad, and foot muscles to absorb the impact. With heel striking, you bone is the first think that hits the ground. The impact travels up your bone (slowed slightly by your shins, causing shin splints) through you knee, and up to your hip. Naturally, moving to a more barefoot style will make your calves sore for a few weeks, but it’s definitely worth it in the long run.
Some other bonuses to running with a barefoot style are that heel striking is much less economical.
Typically you want a shoe that feels the most comfortable to wear. Next, you should decide what kind of running you want to do, short or long distance. Long distance shoes usually have more support on the back end, sprinting shoes are usually extremely light weight and have no support.
