Upscale Local Downtown Group Dinner

San Antonio Sport News - Mon, 04/22/2024 - 18:00

Hi! I'm looking to book a group dinner downtown/on the Riverwalk for 30 people. The budget is $50 per person before alcohol. I'm looking for something that has more of a "San Antonio" feel but is also classy, with good food. No preference as to cuisine.

Thank you!!

Guidance needed on a delicate topic

San Antonio Sport News - Mon, 04/22/2024 - 17:57

Please provide a recommendation on whether I should inform my mother about this situation.

Approximately five weeks ago, I received a surprising letter from a woman named LeeAnn, claiming to be my sister. Intriguingly, her assertion aligns with a somewhat inebriated revelation from my uncle some 23 years ago at a hunting event in Uvalde, Texas.

Evidently, he mentioned that I had a sister, shedding light on some tumultuous times my mother endured in her youth.

Upon conducting thorough research and consulting with a living aunt, it has come to light that in July of 1960, my mother, then 21 years old, suffered a horrific assault in San Antonio.

Regrettably, she was taken advantage of by an individual entrusted with her safety, a police officer, resulting in her pregnancy.

My father, who was serving in the Army at the time, returned to marry my mother a few months later, unaware of the circumstances. To our astonishment, LeeAnn's recent DNA test through Ancestry.com has confirmed her biological connection to our family.

Further investigation unveiled a heart-wrenching saga: my parents, faced with an unimaginable decision, opted to place LeeAnn for adoption through a Catholic agency due to the circumstances surrounding her conception.

Tragically, the truth remained concealed for over six decades until a recent discovery after Mr. Schultz's passing. While I am genuinely excited about the prospect of embracing my newfound sister, the revelation of the adoption has left me profoundly saddened.

LeeAnn, my new sister remains unaware of the circumstances of her birth, as does my 86-year-old mother, who now resides in Elgin, Illinois, following the passing of her husband last year.

In contemplating how to approach this delicate matter with my mother, I encountered resistance from my sister Deborah, who adamantly believes that some chapters of the past are best left undisturbed. However, I cannot shake the conviction that divine providence has orchestrated this reunion for a reason, and that it may offer my mother the emotional closure she deserves.

I recently confided in my late uncle's wife, who disclosed additional details about my parents' emotional turmoil following LeeAnn's adoption. It is evident that they carried profound guilt and sorrow, yet chose to endure their suffering in silence.

As I navigate this complex familial terrain, torn between honoring my mother's right to know her truth and respecting my sister's apprehensions, I humbly seek your wise counsel and guidance. My mother remains in good health, possessing a resilient spirit, while my sister Deborah, though well-intentioned, harbors reservations rooted in fear.

Your insights on this matter would be immensely valuable to me, as I earnestly pray for guidance in finding a path toward redemption and healing for all involved. Thank you and God Bless you all in advance for your prayers to open a path for God's healing for my mother and my new sister LeeAnn.

Oregon State Football - The Reality of What Lies Ahead

San Antonio Sport News - Mon, 04/22/2024 - 17:55

One of the worst things about being in Corvallis is listening to people who are normally at least half intelligent dreaming that the football program is coming back from what's happened. Reality Check!

The Beavs will not be joining any conference that's any better than the Mountain West Conference. The Big 8 has ZERO interest in Corvallis. The ACC has ZERO interest in Corvallis. Just stating the facts here. TV crews sent to cover OSU games always felt their fate was worse than a Russian sent to Siberia. Those of us who live here probably can't really understand the mockery, but it was real. Corvallis is considered nothing more than hicksville, even if you're at Iowa State or Texas A&M. That's just the way it is. A lot of the Mountain West Conference leaders are now wondering if their agreement might have been too hasty, and based too much on the Beavers coming off a successful season. One of the only places considered less hicksville than Corvallis is Pullman, of course. Fair or not, that's absolutely the perception

Here are the urban area populations of the cities in the Mountain West Conference.

3,070,300 ... San Diego

2,196,623 ... Las Vegas

1,837,446 ... San Jose

853,252 ... Honolulu

769,837 ... Albuquerque

717,589 ... Fresno

632,494 ... Colorado Springs

433,180 ... Boise

326,332 ... Fort Collins

264,165 ... Reno

62,433 ... Corvallis

52,778 ... Logan

38,943 ... Laramie

32,508 ... Pullman

Basically, Corvallis, Logan, Laramie and Pullman have the importance of a gnat on a flea's ass. The teams in San Diego, Las Vegas and San Jose will be calling the shots in the Mountain West Conference, and Oregon State was mostly brought in as a charity case. There is ZERO chance that there will be a reverse merger, as some OSU fans are hoping, without outrageously major concessions from the Beavers. The Pac-12 name means something, but after a couple of more years it will mean about as much as the USFL.

The chances are greater that the Beavs will suffer a fate similar to the University of Chicago Maroons than of every playing in a Power 5 Conference again. The Maroons were once a football powerhouse, but now field a Division III team.

The Beavs need to accept their fate and be absolutely grateful they get to play in the Mountain West Conference. You can make a strong case they don't deserve that. Players and coaches leaving the program see the writing on the wall. I've served on several OSU athletic department advisory committees, and the stubbornness and arrogance of some of these people is mind boggling. Failure to accept reality will be the total death knell of the program.

Also, fans are not being told the full story of the women's basketball team. I became somewhat close to one of the better players on the team, and I can't say what I know without betraying the confidence that was given to me. Let's just say that it's a MUCH bigger fiasco than people realize. It's definitely not Scott Rueck's fault. He's a great coach that deserved better. The blame goes to absolute stupidity within the athletic department leadership. I don't think Beavs fans realize what a joke Scott Barnes and his minions are. With him at the helm, Beaver sports will be destroyed in a fairly quick timeframe.

Well, at least not having the things which were introduced only in the next game is more justifiable

Salvation Army Bin Box Finds

San Antonio Sport News - Mon, 04/22/2024 - 17:38

Hit up my fav Salvation Army shop in San Antonio, they have so much freight you can buy the whole bin before they sort it... lot of media but midday to the bottom found these in an old Wild Turkey Crate (that paid for everything in the bin). The Maxx is silly but I enjoyed those and 2 will round out my collection. The Wolverine's were the gems.

Planning USA Roadtrip with the boys - route tips!

San Antonio Sport News - Mon, 04/22/2024 - 16:56

Hello all,

My friends and I (group of 3) are from Toronto, Ontario. We are planning to go on a road trip end of May and have a final destination in mind - California, but we have no idea what to see/where to stop along the way and what routes to take.

In California, the plan is to visit Yosemite and hike half dome mountain. Then hit up San Francisco and go down the gold coast and HWY 1. Check out LA before stopping for 3 days in San Diego and maybe see Tijuana. Then start making our way back and go to Las Vegas for about 3 days again. We have a total allotted time of about 3 weeks for this trip.

Do you guys have any tips on what cities or parks to see on the way? We were thinking of taking this route to Cali through Denver but we definitely don't want to take the same route back:

The trip doesn't necessarily have to be Yosemite first, it can be Las Vegas or whatever. These are just the areas we want to check out in California.

Also, if you have any cool things to check out in California, or any of the aforementioned cities please let me know! I definitely want to do some hiking, camping, surfing etc.

Thank you!

San Antonio Sport News - Mon, 04/22/2024 - 16:46

The Spurs reportedly don’t see Trae Young as a fit with Victor Wembanyama, per @basketballtalk

“League sources have told NBC Sports not to bet on that happening, as San Antonio doesn’t see Young as a fit with Wembanyama going forward. The Spurs might be more interested in the Hawks’ Dejounte Murray if he is available.”

Road trip from MO to MT- any suggestions for route or stops

San Antonio Sport News - Mon, 04/22/2024 - 15:27

Going to be going from Missouri to Montana for a vacation. The final destination is Whitefish Montana. This will be in July. Looking to drive out there and make a road trip out of it stopping at cool spots along the way. Hoping to do the trip there in 4-7 days and then 3-4 on the way home. Thinking about badlands in South Dakota and Yellowstone on the way there and then going through Idaho, Utah, and Colorado on the way home. Going to be pulling a pop up camper as well. First ever road trip so need all the suggestions you can give.

Should I reach out after interview for an update?

San Antonio Sport News - Mon, 04/22/2024 - 14:50

Hey everyone! So I had a late interview in January with UT Health San Antonio, and, if I recall correctly, they said they'd be getting back to us by April 15th with decisions.

Well, it's the 22nd and I haven't heard anything yet. I'm not sure if I misheard them or not, but it has been 3 months since my interview, should I reach out to ask for an update? Is that unheard of and out of line? Should I just wait? Has anyone else been in this situation?

Thanks for any help!
