Long story incoming.

My grandmother passed away 3 months ago after a 6 year fight with dementia. It was hard seeing her change from the loving, caring matriarch of the family to a shell, who couldn't recognise anyone. I regard her death as a blessing, with the last 3 years of her life bound to a chair with no quality of life in a nursing home.

Nan wasn't wealthy, she owned her home, had a very small savings account, and I would estimate her estate was worth around $450'000 australian dollars when she passed.

I had no expectations of any inheritance, the thought hadn't even crossed my mind.

My mum and her only sibling were executors

My mother stated she would be contesting her brother for lost time to care (periodic showering and feeding in the nursing home) to the tune of about $10k, and her brother was fine with that arrangement. When I heard about this, I had some reservations, but as I didn't know the full details I decided it wasn't my business.

The will was meant to be read last week but the solicitor asked why the other benefiting members were not present.... it turns out that my Nan's estate was to be split evenly in eights (12.5% shares) between my uncle, his wife and kids, and my mum, dad and me and my brother.

My Dad called me in the days following the attempted reading and very vaguely told me the details, and then asking me to sign a deed of family arrangement to annul the will to make 50% go to mum alone, surrendering the portion bequeathed to me.

I'm 27, married, 3 kids, just over $1 million in mortgage... 40k would be a huge surprise and welcome final gift from Nan.

My brother and I got together to go to mum+dads house that day and put our thoughts strait. My brother was not happy because mum was trying to take money from her own children, I wasn't happy because mum was trying to change the last word of my nan.

Ultimately, the discussion was a disaster, my mother stated she deserved our portion as she had cared for nan and we didn't, missed out on work to take Nan to appointments and that she deserved to be comfortable and eliminate the remainder of ther mortgage with the inheritance. Being called selfish and greedy by my own mum will stick with me for a long time.

I texted later that I will stand firm and not agree to any abolition of the will. I fully expect my mum to commence court action from this point.

There's a lot of behind the scenes drama, including my parents not liking my wife, and then by extension, my kids, grudges held for decade old issues and general alcohol induced mental instability on my mums side...

Tldr: I refused to surrender an inheritance to my mum and now she's one war path.

Burgers are for me the ultimate comfort food. In Shanghai I think I've tried most of the most popular ones, and yet I keep finding myself at Shake Shack or Five Guys when I need a fix. Cuivre is great, but a little fancy. I'm over Beef & Liberty and Blue Frog.

Anyway, a place called Lazzzy Burger just opened in Xujiahui next to my office, and I really think they deserve a big shout out. Best burger I've had in a long time - maybe the best burger I've ever had in Shanghai. They have a few custom burgers that look great, but I always go for my favorite burger when I try a new place - just meat, cheese, and caramelized onions. They have an English 'build your burger' menu built into the app. And this place nailed it.

The owner Michael studied in the States and clearly loves burgers - after I placed my order he came by and said, 'Oh, you're a fan of Oklahoma Burgers'. And he's right, that's the Oklahoma.

The burgers itself is great - nice firm pretzel bun that holds up despite the juicy meat and gooey American cheese. I really prefer pretzel buns to the brioche buns they use elsewhere in Shanghai. I didn't ask where they sourced the meat but it's definitely imported. Onions were cooked perfectly. I went with the lazzzy burger sauce, which I could tell was a little creamy, even though it was mostly lost in the absolute explosion of flavor from the meat and cheese.

Anyway, just like the framing store I plugged yesterday, this place definitely deserves some business. They are doing it right, just a couple of young Chinese kids who clearly brought a love of burgers back from America.

Price was almost the same as Shake Shack (I believe single / double in both places are 49 / 68). IMO burger was much better at Lazzzy, as were the fries I tried.

They're located on the second floor of the new Bistro One building right at tianyaoqiao road and zhaojiabang road, across the street from the big ball building (meiluocheng). Give 'em a try if you're in Xujiahui and missing that American style burger. It's delicious.

Been talking with a few friends about this, and I'd love to see it. "Destroy High Value Targets". An automaton super base covered in jammers and chokepointed in such a way to necessitate dealing with it in stages, and removing a jammer spawns a wave of enemies that can easily be dealt with by the fun explosive starts that you've been denied up until then. It really just needs the short 12 or 15 minute timer, and a lot of destroyable structures. The ultimate goal would be to sabotage and destroy a cannon that has been targeting the destroyers in orbit, expanding on the lore of the fact we can see destroyers get shot out by surface cannons. It'd be nice to be able to deal with those.

We lost our first playoff game yesterday. It was frustrating all around. My team (10U) didn’t show up on defense. Blowing pass coverage. Giving up on pulling flags. And then once we were down by 3 TD’s they were all complaining and starting to give up. I rallied them back to life and we pulled within one TD but ultimately lost the game.

In all the frustration I lost my cool when the running back from the other team dropped his shoulder and plowed through my players who were trying to pull his flags. I yelled out “He can’t do that! This isn’t tackle! The ref blew the whistle as my guys pulled his flag. The HC from the other team said “well they were in front of him, what’s he supposed to do?”. I was pissed but didn’t want to escalate so I stayed somewhat calm.

My question is, How much contact is the ball carrier allowed to make with the defense?!?

Ok…so i recently landed a better job and I’m about to quit my warehouse job. But before I quit, I want to go out with a bang. So if I made a very accurate, and in my opinion, hilarious version of some various memes the size of business cards with this rude Karen lady’s face on them would there be any grounds for charges? I’m thinking of laying them around the building like a damn Easter egg hunt. I know she’s the type that would try to sue or some crap over this prank. (She married into the family business and thinks she’s the ultimate shit I guess. I figured a little prank may put her in her place and keep newer hires from getting targeted as badly.)

If you’re wondering why I would want to do this?? - This lady in the office is always targeting me in emails for unfair reasons (Eg. 3 of us in the warehouse could be chatting loudly while working but I would get targeted) - She’s over hiring and wouldn’t hire on any of the more recent hires through a temp agency (who were very good workers) even though they were told they would be hired on after 3 months…it’d been 10+ - When we need to see her about sick time, vacation time, hiring on, anything she was over, she won’t see us or is “on vacation”. - Constantly watching cameras and being petty about our allocated times (we’re ahead of schedule). - Good people have been there years, get paid less than me, and not gotten pay raises in years (she’s also over this).

I’m not trying to bash Biden and Harris, and will be voting for them a second time soon… The White House appears to have used misdirection and some fancy pants doublespeak to publicly deny it. Here’s how it really works:

We provide “safer smoking kits” to drug users at no cost to them. What the funding bill and resulting grants said is that we, the harm reductionists who run programs, get to decide what goes in to our kits. Technically, they’re not lying. So yeah, let me tell you how the White House is able to honestly say that they don’t fund crack pipe distribution.

Our crack kits don’t technically contain assembled crack pipes… In order to make a crack pipe, a user has to put the screen or Brillo pad (we provide both) in the glass stem in order for it to meet the legal definition of “crack pipe”. It takes about ten seconds to assemble one, and we give them out usually about 5 at a time, depending on how much crack a person smokes. The max I’ve ever given out was 50, to a guy who had an eighth a day habit and was pretty damn wealthy. They get to choose, and they understand that our stock is limited, so they only take what they need. We don’t ask for names or IDs. It doesn’t matter if you’re broke or a millionaire, we serve all drug users and the people who surround them.

Our kits aren’t just EZ-Build crack pipes; we give them lip balm (as crack pipes can get very hot with obsessive use or if it’s being used by multiple people), little wood pusher sticks which help them use crack more efficiently, rubber mouthpieces which prevent burns and disease spread, new lighters, and a few other knick nacks.

We give everyone narcan as well, so they can save their opioid user friends should one get a bag of dope that’s heavy on the fentanyl. Or if they somehow find pure heroin, which was hard to come by when I was using fifteen years ago. In those days, only paramedics carried narcan! Now your friendly neighborhood crackhead carries it as well, thanks to democrats like me!

But what about meth users, you might ask? What about people who smoke fentanyl? Do they get government funded pipes too???

Yes. Totally taxpayer funded, although we do have other grants and donations. The meth kits are pretty much the same, only with taxpayer funded meth pipes instead of crack pipes. For fentanyl smokers, we have hammerhead pipes. We also have clean sheets of aluminum foil with fresh straws for folks who smoke heroin.

We also do needle exchange… Until a few years ago, it was a one for one syringe exchange, but now we give out boxes of a hundred along with sharps containers to anyone except the diabetics trying to get free medical supplies from us… Hell, even then we give them out even though our grants specify drug users as recipients. We dispose of sharps containers, and we make our clients promise to use them to minimize needle stick injuries. We have contracts with a medical waste company, as do all other needle exchange programs.

My ultimate point here is that HELL YES WE GIVE OUT CRACK PIPES THAT ARE FUNDED BY TAX DOLLARS, and we save lives by doing it. That’s not just a bold claim; harm reduction has been studied, a lot (in part because young liberals going in to allied or public health hear the bizarre and ostensibly false things that some ultraconservatives say about harm reduction and love proving them insane using actual large sample scientific studies), and continues to be studied at the most reputable colleges you can find.

So yeah, AMA. And no, I’m not going to send you pipes or syringes. We only distribute to residents of the city I’m in!

At least in ranked. Getting matched up with ultimate league players or rank 15's who for some reason have a deck full of the strongest cards in the game just straight up isn't fun when you're trying to scrape together enough packs for a functioning deck. Every single player i come across is either another poor soul actually playing the game the way it was intended or someone who hacked the collection (or at least, thats what i assume is happening. Legendaries in the deck at rank 5? Yeah nah.) To build some obnoxious meta strategy.
