Okay, before you all go, "Choose Imperial, it's a really good Uni!", just hear me out. I've been struggling between these two universities, however their differences are so stark.

On one hand, Imperial is an incredibly prestigious university, with excellent graduate prospects. But on the other, Bath is an amazing more relaxed University (in comparison) with focus on sports.

Imperial:

I wasn't planning on applying to Imperial, but I didn't have a 5th choice on UCAS, and I just put it down on a whim. And somehow I managed to get in to studying an MEng in Joint Mathematics and Computer Science.

When I went to the imperial open day/interview day, I didn't feel like I really fitted in with the area. London is a very big, but also isolating place for me, and it's a huge jump from where I am now. Despite this, London has its benefits; it is still quite a nice place to be, with loads of food places, shops and experiences.

Whilst Imperial is a great University, I thought it was rather cramped, and felt kind of 'outdated'. The computer science department didn't really appeal to me as somewhere I'd like to study for a couple years, but It wasn't something that bothered me that much. The graduate prospects though are something that really stood out for me. Compsci professors at Imperial said that the average graduate salary at Imperial was something like £70,000 (I'm not sure if I trust that really). But if it's true, then this is an amazing investment. And would be the main reason I'd go. Other than it's pretty cool saying I got a compsci degree from Imperial.

Imperial itself is quite a small campus, and is a bit of a walk from the tube station. And considering I'd have to live in North Acton, because the accommodation near Imperial costs half a lung a month, would end up being a hassle everytime I'd have to go to campus. But the location of Imperial is nice; the Royal Albert Hall is incredible, and being located next to the Royal College of Music, means there are extra activities that I could get stuck into. I'm a violinist, and love playing in Orchestras, and I was told there was a scholarship for Music, called the Ash Music Scholarship, which I qualify for. (Which basically means I can do muaic lessons at the Royal College of Music next door)

Another thing is the workload. Imperial is already a competitive university, and doing JMC means that I would have to stick my head down and just work a whole lot more (compared to other unis). This workload just scares me; I'm sure I could handle the stress/pressure, but I'm not sure for how long, and whether Id want to sacrifice my wellbeing for a degree.

Also, there has been a rise in the complaints about the cohort at Imperial, especially with Masters courses. Alot of students (and lecturers) have been complaining about the number of international students that have been slacking off with masters group projects. Being an Asian home student, I mean no offence to any international students applying. Relaying what others have said, the majority of Imperials cohort is international students, with over 70/80% being Asian. The issue is that these students have paid large sums of money to get into the UKs top universities, yet when they get there, they are doing the bare minimum with group work. Students have been complaining, and asking program leaders for help, however these issues have been ignored and brushed off as cultural/language differences. Because of this, I am becoming more averse to London universities in general.

Imperial seems like a sure choice for many, but there are so many factors that are putting me off.

Also, my entry requirements are also a grade 2 in STEP 2, which isn't impossible. But it's more stress.

Bath:

When I visited the Uni of Bath on the open day and offer holder day, I felt more welcome and more at home. It felt less cramped and more open. Saying that, the parade at Bath does feel a bit like Imperial's Sherfield walkway. Bath has 'cheaper' accommodation, and a closer feel with its community (to me at least). I also live in Bristol, so I also have the option to live at home, and commute to Bath when I have lectures (they offer parking) which would only take 30/40 min one way. But I don't really want to live at home. Also Im not sure what happens with accommodation if I don't put Bath as my firm.

Despite this, Bath's MSc Computer Science and Maths would feel like a 'more relaxed' course comparatively to Imperials course, and I wouldn't feel as pressured with the competition. But the prospects with Bath aren't as good. A degree from Bath is still great, but the connections from there isn't as great.

Bath also has loads of focus on sports, and considering I like martial arts, skiing and watersports, it would be a nice to be able to do that regularly. (The Bath ski trip sounds fun)

I think in general Bath feels more green (like, being able to see trees and greenery feels more comforting than the concrete buildings of Imperial)

Anyways, I will put down Imperial as my firm, and Bath as my insurance. But to choose between them is the hard part. I'd like to hear your opinion on it all.

hi folks! disclaimer: not a fraghead (yet)

so basically, i was cleaning out my parents’ dresser (they don’t clean it often) and i found these bottles of fragrances; some with their packaging and some without. i was really curious to know what they’re like, so i did some basic googling. other than finding out some objective factors about the scent, i couldn’t find much in terms of reviews (except the Arabiyat, for which i found reviews on this subreddit itself)

i’m looking for two kinds of advice here:

1. regarding the scent itself - does anyone here recognise a favourite of theirs? can the scents be unisex even though they have a “for men” or “for women” attached to them? can i (23F, living in a hot and humid city) use them?

2. expiry - as my parents don’t clean this up often, some of the scents are expired according to the label on their packaging. what can i do with these scents? are they still safe to use on the body? what are the other uses?

I wasn't able to publish this scouting report before the Draft, but I wanted to release it now that Keon Coleman is a Buffalo Bill!

Background:

A three-sport athlete at Opelousas Catholic School in Louisiana, Coleman dominated on both offense and defense, racking up multiple All-State selections and being named team MVP as a senior. While Coleman's prowess on the gridiron earned him 4-star recruiting status, he committed to Michigan State to play both football and basketball. Though he eventually decided to step away from hoops, Coleman made his mark in East Lansing, being named 3rd Team All-Big Ten in 2022 before transferring to Florida State and breaking out to the tune of 11 TDs.

Strengths:

• Young and productive despite high level of competition
• Surprising acceleration backed by a solid 1.54 10-yard split
• Unlimited catch radius with a knack for making spectacular grabs
• Basketball footwork is apparent on slant and comeback routes
• Showcased his ability to force missed tackle as a prolific punt returner
• Displayed nasty yet technical blocking in Michigan State's run-heavy offense

Weaknesses:

• Lacks the vertical speed to pull away from athletic DBs...4.61 40-yard dash was 2nd slowest among wideouts at the Combine
• Lackluster route running limits his immediate separation while mediocre change-of-direction capabilities could limit him longterm
• Still learning to use physicalility to create breathing room in his routes...jumps between being overzealous and passive
• Inadequate release package could make him a magnet for press coverage
• Underwhelming hand strength for a player likely to make a living off of catches in traffic...contested catch success rate suffers accordingly

Summary:

Keon Coleman is an enigma. His most exciting trait is certainly his talent at the catch point, though it's difficult to feel confident when he reeled in just 30% of his contested looks as a junior. A "build-up speed" athlete whose 10-yard split outshines his 40 time, Coleman has plenty of work to do on his perimeter skillset; he needs to add separation to his game by becoming a savvier route runner while also deepening his release package. Keon Coleman has true X WR upside, but he could end up as a matchup-based big-slot if he doesn't improve as a separator.

How do I pay for the Tube/bus, and what's an Oyster card?
You don't pay cash. You can use a number of contactless payments systems such as your Contactless bankcard (which is widespread in the UK, but maybe not so much elsewhere), Apple Pay, Android Pay, or you can buy an Oyster card and top it up with credit. See here for more.

How do I get from this place to that place?
Use Citymapper. Honestly, we're not shills for them; it's just a really good app and is used by most of the locals on this sub.

Is x area safe?
Yes. Bad stuff can happen in any large city, but London is generally very safe. There aren't any no-go zones. Even under the shadow of terrorist attacks, most Londoners feel safe. See our safety page here for more.

Probably not

Tips for posting:

Tell us about you - If you want us to suggest things for you to do then you need to give us a good idea of what you enjoy. Don't just say "I like music", say what type of music. Don't just say you want "somewhere nice to eat", say what type of cuisine you like (or don't like). The more specific you are the better, otherwise you'll just get pointed back to the generic guidebooks, blogs and our wiki.

Tell us your budget - If you're on a budget then tell us what it is and we can bear that in mind when making recommendations. There's no point in us coming up with ideas for things to do and places to eat if they'll clean out your wallet within the first 5 minutes. Saying you want something "cheap" isn't really helpful because what's cheap is entirely subjective.

Tell us where you'll be based - Let us know where you'll be staying so that we can give local recommendations.

Asking about hotels or hostels - We have homes here so know very little about what the hotels are like. Look on review websites such as TripAdvisor. However, if you say "I've been looking at these three hotels. Which do you think is the better location?" then that's the sort of thing we can answer.

Non-touristy stuff - There are no secret corners where we hide the good stuff from outsiders! This is one of the most written about cities in the world, so when we want to go to a museum, or gallery, go window shopping, or whatever, we look at the same sources as tourists (listings sites, blogs, etc - see front page of the wiki).
